Iberia Express and the Madrid City Council’s Tourism Department baptized one of the company’s new A321neo aircraft in a ceremony held at the «La Muñoza» facilities.
The ceremony was attended by Almudena Maíllo, Councillor for Tourism of the Madrid City Council, and Iberia Express CEO Carlos Gómez Suárez, who cut the symbolic ribbon and launched this initiative with which the company will carry the name of Madrid through the European skies.
The plane, which has registration number EC-NIF, also features Madrid on its interior, as it has special passenger headrests on the seats with images of monuments and emblematic buildings of the city.
Both entities intend to give greater visibility to the city and some of its main tourist attractions in all the destinations where Iberia Express operates, as well as to promote the recovery of short and medium-haul connectivity to Madrid.
It also adds value to aeronautics and sustainable tourism, as the Airbus A321neo is the most sustainable aircraft in the Airbus short- and medium-haul fleet, offering 6% more capacity and an efficiency improvement of around 20%.
«We have always had a strong bond with this city since we were born as a company almost 10 years ago. Indeed, we define ourselves as Madrid’s low-cost airline and that is why we work with a dual commitment: firstly, to meet the connection needs of the capital both as a destination and as a hub for other continents, thanks to the Group’s network of flights and, secondly, to offer attractive connectivity for local people,» said Carlos Gómez, CEO of Iberia Express.
«Naming one of our aircraft after Madrid is deeply symbolic for us and is a way of strengthening all the ties that unite us with our home,» added the executive.
Meanwhile, Almudena Maíllo, Madrid City Council’s Councilor for Tourism, explained that the organization «will continue to work hand in hand with companies in the sector, who are great ambassadors for the capital, to promote Madrid as a destination and drive tourism to the city».
Furthermore, this initiative is very beneficial in terms of stimulating connectivity in the short and medium-term and the arrival of visitors from strategic European markets that are key to Madrid,» she said.
