Líneas Aéreas Suramericanas took delivery of its first Boeing 737-400SF
Líneas Aéreas Suramericanas (LAS Cargo), based in Colombia, took delivery of its first Boeing 737-400SF, which will further modernize its fleet of mostly Boeing 727 aircraft.
This 737-400SF has the registration HK-5385 and serial number 27632. It was previously owned by the French ASL Airlines Group. Prior to being converted as a freighter, it also flew for Asiana Airlines, Blue Bird, and Air One since its manufacture in 1997.
In addition to the HK-5385, the South American Airlines (LAS Cargo) fleet is composed of two Boeing B727-200ADV(F), two Boeing B727-200F Super 27, and one Boeing B737-300SF (equipped with winglets). One of the Boeing 727s, HK-4636, underwent major maintenance which included a cargo bay upgrade, suggesting that the model will not be replaced by Boeing 737s.
From its base at Bogota’s El Dorado airport, LAS Cargo operates a network that reaches Lima, Quito, Manaus, Caracas, and Panama.
The Boeing 737-400SF (Special Freighter) was not a model originally developed by Boeing, but became the name for the 737-400 passenger aircraft turned freighter. Alaska Airlines was the first carrier to convert its -400s to freighters.
