Australia-based startup investor Bonza Airlines and Canada-based Flair Airlines placed an order for 30 additional Boeing 737 MAXs, including 737-8s and 737-8200 «Gamechangers,» valued at $3.7 billion at list prices.

Miami-based 777 Partners announced that it will almost double its 737 MAX backlog with this purchase to 68, its fourth-order this year for the model. The company invests primarily in ultra-low-cost carriers.

«We are extremely pleased to be able to announce the almost doubling of the size of our order with Boeing. We have long relied on the economics of the 737 MAX family, but we are especially excited about the 737-8-200 variant which represents the majority of our additional orders. We are confident that this aircraft will be the hallmark of ULCC / LCC active, particularly in the sub-200 seat market» said Josh Wander, managing partner of 777 Partners.

«As travel demand returns, 777 has accelerated our pursuit of efficiencies in both operating costs and carbon footprint on our operating airlines. In these areas, the 737-8 is attractive and the 737-8-200 is simply unmatched,» concluded Wander.

By 2022, Bonza Airline will launch with eight Boeing 737 MAX initially connecting Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to each other, the most lucrative domestic routes in the world. The airline has been talking to Australia’s aviation regulator and is expected to submit a formal license application soon, Bonza chief executive Tim Jordan said.

Meanwhile, Flair Airlines has nine 737-8s with an investment plan for up to 50 aircraft over the next five years.

«We are very appreciative of 777 Partners for their confidence in our products, including repeat orders for the 737 MAX and the expansion of their fleet to include the high-capacity 737-8-200 model,» said Ihssane Mounir, Senior Vice President, Boeing Commercial Sales and Marketing. «777 Partners is enhancing the growth of its low-cost airline affiliates by leveraging the flexibility, reliability, and efficiency of the 737 family to meet passengers’ needs for years to come,» he added.
