Spirit strong expansion in Philadelphia including new routes to the Caribbean

Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines announced today, Tuesday 7, a major expansion of its network from Philadelphia, Pa.(PHL) that includes the launch of seven new destinations, three of them in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as an increase in frequencies on its route to Cancun. Thus, the number of cities served by Philadelphia International Airport will increase by 50%.

From February 16, 2022, the ultra-low-cost yellow airline will start flying daily between Philadelphia and New Orleans in the domestic segment. On May 11, it will launch services to Nashville and Houston, while on May 18 it will do the same to Oakland.

Spirit Airlines will start operating four weekly flights between Philadelphia and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on April 20, 2022, an unprecedented route in the Caribbean region. On May 18, it will inaugurate flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (4 weekly frequencies), and on the same day, it will also fly to Montego Bay, Jamaica (3 weekly flights).

The airline will also increase its flight frequency between Philadelphia and Cancun to one daily flight as of April 20, 2022.

“This is amazing news for PHL, our passengers, and our region,” said PHL CEO Chellie Cameron. “In addition to bringing more options to popular vacation destinations, Spirit will be the only airline at PHL to provide nonstop service to Oakland and Aguadilla. This is especially important for our passengers who want to visit friends and family.”

For his part, Matt Klein, Spirit’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, said, “Philadelphia has been a great long-term partner for Spirit Airlines, and we are thankful to the airport team for allowing this opportunity to add many more popular, nonstop destinations for our guests. This expansion is especially exciting because of the variety of destinations ranging from the Pacific Coast to popular locations in the southern U.S. and three new options for Caribbean getaways.”
