Aena eliminates infrastructure use fee to promote flights at La Palma Airport

After the eruptions, Aena promotes through La Palma an incentive for airlines to return to the airport.

This year, Aena is applying a new incentive to airlines operating at La Palma Airport in order to promote air traffic and boost the airline’s scheduling of routes and operations. Aena is therefore helping to recover activity on the island, which was severely affected by the eruption of the volcano in the Cumbre Vieja natural park.

The new incentive means the elimination of the infrastructure use charge or passenger fare for operations departing between January 1st of this year and December 31st, from La Palma Airport and landing on the Peninsula, in the Balearic Islands, or in an international destination.

Under the incentive, which consists of reimbursing airlines 100% of the passenger fare on departing flights, the incentive acts on the fare that airlines transfer to passengers for the use of the infrastructure, which may contribute to promoting activity at La Palma Airport.

This is supplemented by a similar measure that Aena approved for the 2021-2022 winter season for the entire network, which applies to the arrival fee and aims to help airlines recover routes and frequencies lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this way, Aena offers an incentive to recover operations when a monthly threshold of 75% is exceeded with respect to the pre-pandemic winter season.
