Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazno, along with Calafia Airlines executives and tourism officials announced that the airline will connect Tijuana (TIJ) with Puerto Peñasco (PPE), starting April 19.
Calafia Airlines will operate two weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays) to Tijuana with Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft, with a capacity for 50 passengers. In addition, from Tijuana it will be possible to connect to Loreto (LTO) and La Paz (LAP) in Baja California Sur.
The renovated Sea of Cortes International Airport, which serves Puerto Peñasco, will once again have commercial flights with this announcement. TAR Aerolineas operated between July and November 2016 to Hermosillo (HMO), Tijuana (TIJ) and Ciudad Juarez (CJS).
This new route will once again bring tourists closer to Tijuana and especially to California, United States, which annually chooses the Mexican beaches of the State of Sonora and Baja California Sur. Officials mentioned that the U.S. state is the sixth-largest economy in the world, a market with a high purchasing value, where they will seek to attract tourists with the attractions of its coasts.

This is great news for us, which opens up additional communication options to those that Puerto Peñasco already has by land, and this will allow us to offer all the attractions of this extraordinary city to the Tijuana market, but particularly to the California market,» commented Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazno.
About Puerto Peñasco
Puerto Peñasco is a Mexican tourist and fishing city on the Gulf of California, located northwest of Sonora. It is the gateway to the El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and Gran Desierto de Altar, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.
The city is between the Sea of Cortez and the Sonoran Desert, is a cosmopolitan destination where elegant hotels, shopping malls and golf courses come together. It has an urban promenade, which includes small bars and Mexican handicraft stores.

Calafia Airlines connects the Pacific of Mexico from the states of Baja California Sur, Baja California, Sonora, Nueva Leon, Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Jalisco. It has a fleet of two Embraer 120ERs, three Embraer ERJ 145ERs and one ERJ 145LR.
In 2021, the company moved 153,535 passengers, according to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency. Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (AFAC). In January 2022, it moved 10,351 passengers, a 44.1% recovery compared to the same period in 2021.
