Volotea boosts connectivity in Lille and inaugurates flights between Marseille and Barcelona

Spanish low-cost airline Volotea announced new developments in its network of destinations and the strengthening of its base at Lille-Lesquin Airport (LIL), inaugurated on April 1st.

Connectivity at Lille

The company announced that it will start flying to Barcelona (BCN), Faro (FAO), Menorca (MAH), Athens (ATH), Rome (FCO), Malaga (AGP) and Heraklion (HER) from July. The airline will base a second Airbus A319 in Lille, and plans to create 30 new direct jobs and 25 indirect jobs.

Volotea will thus become the airport’s largest operator. Twelve of its destinations from the Lille will be exclusive. The company plans to offer more than 600,000 seats to 23 cities in seven European countries during 2022.

From the new openings, Volotea will operate an extensive network from its newly French base: it will fly to Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga, Menorca, Ajaccio, Bastia, Bordeaux, Calvi, Figari, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice, Perpignan, Toulouse, Rome, Venice, Palermo, Cagliari, Varna, Split, Athens, Heraklion and Faro.

New routes from Lille

  • Lille (LIL) – Barcelona (BCN): three weekly frequencies (Monday, Friday and Sunday) from July 11th. Exclusive route.
  • Lille (LIL) – Faro (FAO): one weekly frequency (Monday) as from July 11th. Exclusive route and Volotea’s first destination in Portugal.
  • Lille (LIL) – Athens (ATH): two fweekly frequencies (Tuesday and Saturday) as from July 12th. Exclusive route.
  • Lille (LIL) – Menorca (MAH): one weekly frequency (Wednesday) as from July 13th. Exclusive route.
  • Lille (LIL) – Rome (FCO): two weekly frequencies (Thursday and Sunday) as from July 14th. Exclusive route.
  • Lille (LIL) – Malaga (AGP): one weekly frequency (Thursday) as from July 14th. Exclusive route.
  • Lille (LIL) – Heraklion (HER): one weekly frequency (Saturday) as from July 16th.

Flights are already open for sale as of this week.

New route between Marseille (MRS) and Barcelona (BCN)

Volotea will inaugurate flights between Marseille-Provence and Barcelona-El Prat next July 1st. It will service the route twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. In this way, Barcelona will become the company’s sixth destination in Spain from the port city.

Marseille is another of its bases in France. It is the airport’s second largest operator in terms of destinations served. It offers a total of 20 routes, including domestic flights and connections to Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Algeria.

The company’s forecasts for this year are encouraging. It foresees an historic growth in Europe, but especially in France, which will account for 50% of the airline’s total activity. Volotea expects to offer more than 5 million seats in 2022, 54% more than in 2019.
