Spanish low-cost airline Volotea celebrated ten years of operations at Venice Marco Polo International Airport (VCE). In 2012, the air station in the capital city of the Veneto region was the airline’s first European base.

In 2021, it became the first airport in the airline’s network to receive the new Airbus A320s. With the new aircraft, it began the fleet replacement process with the aim of making the fleet more homogeneous and efficient. Since the start of its operations in the city, it has transported 5.6 million passengers.

Volotea also announced the expansion of its offer from the city this year. It will inaugurate two new routes, to Lille (LIL) and Nice (NCE), starting from October 21th with two weekly frequencies. By the end of the year, it plans to offer 32 routes from Venice; 22 international and 10 domestic.

In addition, the company highlighted its new sustainability actions. Thanks to the joint action with SAVE, which manages the airport, and the energy company Eni, Volotea carried out the first flights powered by a mixture of traditional and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Venice.

According to the company, it intends to use the blend of traditional and sustainable fuel in 45% of its Venice operations by 2022.

Finally, to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the company launched special promotions with fares starting from 5 euros. Volotea has good occupancy prospects, in the context of recovering demand for air travel. It expects to offer 760,000 seats to and from Venice in 2022, operate 4,300 flights and carry 700,000 passengers.

Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea, said: “Year after year, with our continuous investments, we believe we have made a significant contribution to support the region and its economy, also through the creation of employment opportunities and initiatives aimed at relaunching the local cultural scene and its high tourism potential”. “We hope that the strong bond created in these first ten years will be further consolidated and we look forward to announcing important local developments soon”, he concluded.
