    In the framework of the Tianguis Turístico 2022 held in Acapulco, TAG Airlines met with representatives of the states of Guerrero and Yucatan, to continue expanding its operations in Mexico from Guatemala.

    Expansion in the Mexican Pacific

    The Guatemalan flag carrier met with Guerrero authorities to discuss opening new routes in southeastern Mexico from Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (ZIH) and Acapulco (ACA) from its hub in Guatemala City (GUA).

    «We want to unite the best of Mexico and Guatemala, and without a doubt Acapulco and Zihuatanejo are two world-class travel and tourism destinations; they are two international icons in the Mexican Pacific» said Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines.

    New destination from Flores

    TAG Airlines continues with its commitment to increase Yucatan’s connectivity with Guatemala, the company plans to incorporate a new international route from Merida (MID) with non-stop connection from Flores (FRS), this would be the company’s second service from Mundo Maya International Airport (FRS), currently the airline operator offers flights from Cancun (CUN).

    «We want to unite the best of Mexico and Guatemala, and undoubtedly Chichen Itza and Tikal are the two destinations par excellence of Mundo Maya,» added Gamero.

    TAG Yucatan

    Market recovery between Mexico and Guatemala.

    According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), 222,692 passengers were mobilized in 2021 between Mexico and Guatemala, representing a recovery of 42.7% when compared to 2019. In the cargo market 10,275.3 tons of goods and mail were transported, an increase of 42.74% compared to pre-pandemic levels. In addition, 3,611 air operations were recorded last year.

    Growth in vacation destinations

    TAG Airlines has consolidated its network with most of the most popular vacation destinations, offering non-stop service to Merida, Oaxaca, Tuxtla, Cancun, Roatan and El Salvador. Mexico continues to be the central focus of the company’s international expansion.

    «For TAG Airlines, Mexico is a strategic destination with great tourist attractions, as well as business opportunities, which is why the airline is promoting an intense expansion plan,» continued Gamero.
