ITA Airways unveiled the livery of its new Airbus A350-900 «Born to Be Sustainable». This continues the fleet modernization plan carried out by Alitalia’s successor company.

The scheme sports the legend on the fuselage, in addition to the phrase «-25% Fuel & CO2», which refers to the lower fuel consumption and associated emissions of the European manufacturer’s most modern wide-body aircraft. According to the company, it aims to become «Europe’s greenest airline» by 2025.

The Airbus A350 is constructed mostly of composite materials, titanium, and aluminum alloys. As a result, it is significantly lighter than previous aircraft in the same segment. These characteristics, together with propulsion by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, enable fuel consumption to be reduced by up to 25%, with a consequent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

The aircraft, the fourth of its kind to be added to the ITA Airways fleet, will begin commercial operations in mid-June. It will initially serve routes between Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and Buenos Aires-Ezeiza (EZE), Los Angeles (LAX) and New York (JFK). The airline mantains four other orders for A350 aircraft from Airbus.

According to the company, the new livery is a » testimonial of the flagship carrier’s commitment to sustainability». In this regard, it also highlighted its initiatives «focused on efficiency» and on reducing its carbon footprint.

According to the company, its main actions include improving fuel consumption efficiency, investing in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and using recyclable materials on board. Besides, it stated that it plans to implement carbon footprint offsetting programs soon.
