Argentina: Major terminal overhaul will allow Salta Airport to double passenger capacity
The governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, met in Buenos Aires with the president of ORSNA (Regulatory Body of the National Airport System) Carlos Lugones to make progress in the completion of the multi-year works plan for the Martín Miguel de Güemes International Airport.
The meeting was also attended by the representative of the Casa de Salta, Martín Plaza, and from ORSNA: the vice-president Fernando Muriel, the first member Pilar Becerra and the manager of Airport Planning Ignacio Vilanova.
The interventions will double the number of passengers, since the project includes a complete renovation of the check-in hall, incorporating modern technologies in the entire baggage dispatch system (scales, injector belts, security control machines, new carousels, etc.).
An aesthetic, functional and building renovation of all public areas will also be carried out, relocating the vertical cores -elevators, escalators- and enlarging the baggage claim areas for arriving flights, both domestic and international.
Upstairs, a substantial increase in the areas for security control and pre-boarding lounges is foreseen, which will be larger, more comfortable and offer a wider range of services for passengers. The planning of the works is organized in stages, to be able to execute them without closing the airport.
The improvements include the addition of a fourth telescopic walkway and the reconfiguration and expansion of the commercial aircraft apron (13,200 m2). This set of works will be complemented by new technical rooms for regulators and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) beaconing, as well as maintenance infrastructure and support services.
