Delta restores its destination offer in Germany for summer 2023

Delta for the 2023 boreal summer season restores its entire destination offering in Germany that it operated prior to the COVID-19 crisis. The Atlanta-based carrier will offer five destinations: Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Berlin – Brandenburg (BER), Düsseldorf (DUS) and Stuttgart (STR).

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Cirium platform, by summer 2023 Delta will have a supply of 21,602 weekly seats between the U.S. and Germany on 98 operations, an 84.4% recovery from 2019 levels. The airline will be the third largest North American operator in this market behind only United and Air Canada.

Resumption of German routes from Atlanta.

The carrier from its largest hub at Hartsfield Jackson Airport (ATL) will resume two non-stop services which had been suspended since March 2020. Atlanta (ATL) is Delta’s hub with the largest supply of seats and destinations to Germany, the schedule for the routes is as follows:

Düsseldorf (DUS)

Resumes as of May 9, 2023 with three weekly flights, schedule is as follows:

  • Atlanta – Düsseldorf Flight DL 90 ATL 17:50 – DUS 08:35+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Düsseldorf – Atlanta Flight DL 91 DUS 10:35 – ATL 14:25 Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline via Eurostat, Delta moved 131,825 passengers between Atlanta and Düsseldorf in 2019. For the time being, the airline will offer the only transatlantic service from DUS.

Stuttgart (STR)

Resumes from March 26, 2023 with four flights a week, schedule is as follows:

  • Atlanta – Stuttgart Flight DL 116 ATL 17:35 – STR 08:40+1 Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Stuttgart – Atlanta Flight DL 117 STR 10:40 – ATL 14:55 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

This service is orienting passenger traffic coming from the automotive industry, large companies in this sector such as Mercedes Benz and Porsche are headquartered in Atlanta. Delta pre-pandemic served 134,539 passengers on this route and offers the only long-haul service from Stuttgart.

Both routes to DUS and STR will be operated on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with 216 seats in four classes (26 Delta One/18 Premium Select/21 Delta Comfort+/151 Main Cabin).

The airline from Atlanta (ATL) will offer 9,170 seats per week on 42 weekly flights to Germany to four destinations including: Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Düsseldorf (DUS) and Stuttgart (STR).

Back to the German capital

As of May 25, 2023, Delta resumes operations to Berlin (BER) from the new Brandenburg Airport, the carrier’s last operation to the German capital in the summer of 2019:

  • New York – Berlin Flight DL 92 JFK 17:30 – BER 07:40+1 flights daily.
  • Berlin – New York Flight DL 93 BER 09:40 – JFK 12:30 daily flights.

In 2019 the Atlanta-based airline mobilized 80,865 passengers on this route and it will soon compete in this sector with the low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways.

This service will be operated on Boeing 767-300ERs with 226-seat capacity in three classes (26 Delta One/35 Delta Comfort+/165 Main Cabin).
