Edelweiss will increase its operations between Zurich (ZRH) and Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) from November 2 to 2 flights per week. The Swiss airline is the only member of the Lufthansa Group offering services at Daniel Oduber Quiros Airport (LIR).
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) for the first half of 2022 Costa Rica received 29,479 Swiss tourists, Switzerland is the fifth largest European market in the Central American country this year.
Edelweiss will also offer non-stop services between Zurich (ZRH) and San José (SJO) with 3-4 weekly flights during the winter. The long-haul holiday subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group is the second airline to operate out of Costa Rica’s two main airports.
Flight Itinerary
- Zurich – Liberia Flight WK 12 ZRH 09:10 – LIR 16:45 (with stopover in SJO) Wednesday and Sunday.
- Liberia – Zurich Flight WK 12 LIR 22:25 – ZRH 16:20+1 (non-stop) Wednesday and Sunday.
The route will be operated on Airbus A340-300 aircraft with a capacity of 314 seats in three classes (27 Business Class/76 Economy Max/211 Economy) and promotional fares are available from USD 530 each way.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) 72,890 passengers and 1,137,224 kilograms of cargo were mobilized in 2019 between Switzerland and Costa Rica. Zurich (ZRH) is the Central American country’s fifth main European market.
Edelweiss’ sister airline Lufthansa for the northern winter season will offer non-stop service between Frankfurt (FRA) and San José (SJO) with three weekly flights on Airbus A340s with a capacity of 279 seats, in total the German group will offer 6-7 flights a week between Europe and Costa Rica.
