Virgin Atlantic and LATAM Airlines apply to DOT for a codeshare agreement

Virgin Atlantic and LATAM Airlines Group have applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) under Docket DOT-OST-2022-0118-0001 for authorization to codeshare on flights between South America and the United Kingdom from various destinations in the United States. This application only includes LATAM’s Colombian, Chilean and Peruvian subsidiaries.

Both carriers will place their respective «VS» and «LA» codes on their passenger services for connections from the Atlantic, and respectfully request the authority’s prompt approval of this application to begin marketing and selling codeshare flights as soon as possible.

The joint applicants may only use this agreement for traffic flowing between the United Kingdom and Colombia/Chile/Peru via various points in the United States. Codeshare services will not be available to any Virgin Atlantic and LATAM Airlines passengers with U.S. origin or destination and are only available for connections to the U.K. and South America.

Both airlines meet the necessary requirements to implement these new services. This proposal is consistent with the Air Transport Agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which allows air carriers to enter cooperative marketing arrangements.

The proposed code-share services also follow the regulations of the Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation (MALIAT) involving both Chile and the United States, which allows liberal code-sharing between Chilean and third country airlines.
