Employees throwing passengers’ luggage after a Qantas flight had landed at Melbourne airport were immediately suspended after a video began to be shared on social media.
The one-minute footage, available below, shows a trio of employees throwing the bags with unnecessary violence, potentially damaging travelers’ items. Both the Australian airline and the third-party company Swissport have begun an internal investigation.
«The behavior in this video is clearly not acceptable, and our contract ground services officer is conducting an urgent investigation,» a Qantas spokesman told British newspaper The Guardian.
As per our media partner AEROIN, a Swissport spokesman said the company «trains and manages all staff to handle customer property with care and diligence. The actions of the staff in the video appear to have violated these service level standards. As a result, the team in question has been suspended pending an urgent investigation.»
Finally, Swissport’s chief executive Brad Moore wrote to the team saying that «The behaviors in the video let us all down. Disrespectful behavior with our customers’ luggage and personal effects will not be tolerated and will result in serious disciplinary action.»
