Menzies Aviation, one of the world’s largest aviation services companies, began incorporating electric vehicles into its operation at LAX.
The company began a trial period of Mullen Automotive’s electric vehicles and Loop Global’s charging infrastructure in its operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), in search of innovations that will enable it to reach its goal of carbon neutrality by 2033.
Menzies has a global fleet of 27,000 pieces of ground service equipment, including more than 8,000 vehicles at more than 250 airports worldwide. The company has committed to begin implementing electric propulsion wherever possible to reduce its emissions, in line with its sustainability strategy.

John Redmond, executive vice president for the Americas at Menzies Aviation, said, «Collaborating with suppliers, airports and airlines is absolutely vital for Menzies to achieve its sustainability goals. We are committed to switching to electric vehicles wherever possible to reduce our carbon emissions. Early results look positive and I look forward to seeing the final results of this collaboration.» Dustin Cavanaugh, CEO of Loop, added for his part that «we hope this pilot program is just a stepping stone to usher in a new era of electrification at airports around the world.» Finally, David Michery, CEO and president of Mullen Automotive, stated, «Our commercial electric vehicles are a perfect fit for airport operations.»
Mullen and Menzies will implement a 60-day pilot program that will evaluate the Class 1 Electric Vehicle (EV) model in various use cases. Menzies will apply EVs to transport cabin cleaning equipment to aircraft, among other uses. Loop, meanwhile, will provide the charging infrastructure and fleet operations software. Loop’s charger management system will allow EVs to be charged at the right time to maintain the highest possible utilization rate in daily operations.
