Pyka introduced its new Pelican Cargo, the latest addition to its fleet. According to the manufacturer, the aircraft boasts unprecedented cargo capacity and range for its segment. In addition, it is the world’s largest zero-emission cargo aircraft, as well as the first autonomous vehicle in its class.

The aircraft features a range of up to 200 miles (320 kilometers), a payload of up to 400 pounds in 66 cubic feet of volume, and a sliding tray cargo system. According to Pyka, the Pelican Cargo platform will help improve express logistics networks, enabling connectivity to remote rural communities and ensuring fast and reliable access to vital goods and supplies.

«We believe Pelican Cargo will have a positive impact on people’s lives,» says Pyka CEO and co-founder Michael Norcia. «We have designed this aircraft to eliminate C02 emissions from the logistics chain while offering a significant speed advantage over ground transportation and negligible operating costs relative to conventional air transport.»

Pyka has secured pre-commitments for more than 80 orders and options for its Pelican Cargo, signed by three customers in North America and Europe. The aircraft is currently undergoing rigorous testing at Pyka’s flight test facility in Northern California, with the first commercial operation scheduled for the second half of 2023.

«We operate a carefully selected fleet in our markets. Each of our aircraft has been chosen because of its operational capabilities and unmatched performance,» said Alex Brown, Director of Skyports Drone Services, one of Pelican Cargo’s launch customers. «Welcoming this aircraft to our fleet will allow us to continue our mission of solving complex logistical and operational challenges with tailored services,» he added.
