airBaltic took delivery of its 40th Airbus A220-300: at a ceremony held at the Airbus plant in Mirabel, USA, the Latvian company received its new aircraft, which carries the colors of the Latvian flag.

The YL-ABN registered aircraft was received by airBaltic at the Airbus facility in Mirabel, in a special event honoring the collaboration and great ties that unite Canada and Latvia. The aircraft is expected to become part of airBaltic’s active fleet in early April.

“More than six years ago, airBaltic became the worldwide launch operator of the A220-300 aircraft. Over the years, this aircraft type has become the backbone of our operations, and we remain proud ambassadors of it. These years have demonstrated great collaboration and friendship between us, as Latvia’s national airline, and our partners in Canada, so we are pleased to be here today, celebrating this aircraft and all the work we have done together. It is an incredible pride and honor to have this aircraft as part of our growing A220-300 fleet.” Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic expressed.

“The unveiling of airBaltic’s 40th A220-300, which will proudly fly in the colors of the Latvian flag, is an important moment for all of us at Airbus Canada. This aircraft symbolizes a long-standing collaboration and continued partnership with airBaltic in our common journey to offer passengers the most sustainable and comfortable flying experience. The A220 has achieved more than 1 million flight hours and has connected more than 70 million passengers to date.” Said Rob Dewar, Senior Vice President, Customer Satisfaction, Services and A220 Product Policy at Airbus Canada.

The Airbus A220 and airBaltic, long-standing partners

airBaltic was the launch customer for the current Airbus A220-300, an aircraft developed by Bombardier as the CS300. The Latvian airline was the first to have the modern Bombardier aircraft in its fleet, which months later became the smallest Airbus model.

With the delivery of this A220, airBaltic reaches 40 units of the model in its fleet, making it one of the main operators of this aircraft in the world. The YL-ABN will carry a special livery with the Latvian flag and will become the second to carry such livery.

The aircraft is expected to start operations in early April. A ceremony will be held at Riga Airport (RIX) to mark the start of its activity in the airBaltic fleet.

Airbus A220-300s arrived at airBaltic in May 2020: since then, more than 11 million passengers have flown on them, completing 126 thousand flights and accumulating a total of 275,000 block hours.
