Eurowings took delivery of the first Airbus A321ceo and christened internally by the company «Mallorca Airbus» and with the registration D-AIDU. Germany’s leading leisure airline will use the European manufacturer’s largest narrowbody aircraft in major holiday destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Crete and the Canary Islands.
This model is configured with 230 seats and can carry a third more passengers than its Airbus A320 sibling.
The D-AIDU is coming from the Lufthansa fleet as part of the fleet exchange between the airlines of the German group, this aircraft has already received the livery of Eurowings. Once the overhaul process is completed, six Airbus A321ceo will join the leisure airline’s fleet as of May 2023.
In addition, four Airbus A321neo will join the fleet by the end of 2023. The addition of these new-generation aircraft is part of a €1 billion investment package in 13 A320neo family units. All the airline’s Airbus A321s will offer 16 seats in BIZClass.
2023: With more travel and free of restrictions
With the increase in additional capacity, Eurowings is responding to pent-up demand, especially for vacation travel. This year, sanitary restrictions will have ceased in most countries, and there will be no requirement for PCR testing and the use of face masks on flights. The airline also experienced a significant increase in bookings for the summer season.
Eurowings will offer a schedule of over 380 routes with more than 140 destinations in 37 countries. The airline’s main holiday markets are Italy, Spain and Greece, where it offers 50 direct flights to more than 50 regions in these countries alone.
The leisure carrier’s most important destination is Palma de Mallorca (PMI), where Eurowings offers more operations than any other city in its network, with around 400 flights a week from 20 airports.
