Despite the various sanctions imposed, an airline in Russia has reportedly obtained two second-hand Boeing 737-900ERs. Given that the Russian airline industry has been facing sanctions and limitations for more than a year, the arrival of these aircraft is unusual.

As reported by the TourDom portal and reproduced by our partner AEROIN, these two aircraft are destined for the S7 airline, known for its distinctive fluorescent green livery and also for being the only operator of Embraer E-Jets in Russia.

According to reports, the two aircraft are said to be owned by the lessor GTLK (in Russian, ГТЛК: Государственная транспортная лизинговая компания; State Transport Leasing Company) which were previously operated under lease by Indonesian carrier Lion Air, flew to Russia, although they did not explain whether this was a sublease or transfer of any existing contract.

The jets were manufactured in 2018 and have a longer flight range compared to conventional (non-ER) Boeing 737-900s. They were spotted at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport, still with the former owner’s paint scheme. None of the companies involved commented on the case.
