Japan Airlines (JAL) and Wisk Aero have signed an agreement to explore a new maintenance management system for autonomous aircraft. The objective of this agreement is to further develop passenger air transportation in unmanned eVTOL vehicles. The coordination and cooperation regarding certifications and maintenance systems will be undertaken by JAL Engineering.
These companies will join forces to develop maintenance programs for eVTOL aircraft, ensuring the same safety and reliability standards in maintenance and operation as conventional aircraft.
The agreement catalyzes the development of eVTOL aircraft, taking a significant step towards their deployment. JAL will leverage its extensive experience in operational safety, while Wisk will utilize its technical abilities in autonomous aircraft development.
The project aims to conduct relevant studies for the establishment of the system and regulation of the eVTOLs. The second goal is to carry out a study on the demonstration flight of autonomous aircraft in Japan.
Lastly, both companies will work closely to achieve the JCAB certification for the eVTOLs.
