Azores Airlines Starts Flights to Bilbao

Azores Airlines expands its European network with the start of a new non-stop service between Ponta Delgada and Bilbao, the carrier’s second destination in Spain, on July 1, 2023.

Flight S4 504 was operated by an Airbus A321neo registered as CS-TSJ, which took off from John Paul II Airport (PDL) at 08:09 local time and landed at Bilbao Airport (BIO) at 12:53, after two hours and 44 minutes.

The inaugural event ceremony was attended by the Regional Secretary of Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral; the President of the Board of Directors of SATA Holding, Teresa Gonçalves; the Commercial Director of Aviation of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, Nuno Almeida Costa; among other distinguished guests.

With this new route, Bilbao Airport will be connected to five destinations in Portugal including Madeira – Funchal, Lisbon, Porto, Faro and now Ponta Delgada for the summer season. The airline is the only airline to connect Bilbao with the Azores Islands with non-stop flights.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics, in the period January – May 2023, 94,930 passengers were mobilized between Bilbao and Portugal in 1,066 operations. This represents an increase of more than 120% in passenger traffic compared to 2022 levels.

  • Bilbao – Ponta Delgada Flight S4 505 BIO 14:10 – PDL 15:20 Saturday.

  • The service will be available between July 1 and September 30.

The route will be operated on Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity of 186 seats in two classes (16 Business Class/ 170 Economy) and promotional fares are available from EUR 332 round trip.

This new service allows passengers from Bilbao to connect to Azores Airlines’ North American network, which includes non-stop flights to Montreal, Toronto – Pearson, New York JFK and Boston.

In addition, the company has services to Barcelona, Bermuda, Paris – Charles de Gaulle, Madeira – Funchal, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Porto and Praia. In total, Azores Airlines offers a capacity of 26,184 weekly seats to and from Ponta Delgada according to Cirium.
