Avianca began flights between Guatemala City and Cancún

On September 1, Avianca began non-stop flights between Guatemala City and Cancun with four weekly flights. With this new service, the airline’s international network in Guatemala grows to 10 routes in the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras.

Flight AV 650 took off from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) at 10:53 local time and landed at Cancun International Airport (CUN) at 13:15, after one hour and 22 minutes. The occupancy for the first inaugural flight was 80%.

Avianca currently offers 78 flights per week and more than 56,000 seats per month to and from Cancun connecting to Quito, Medellin, Bogota, San Salvador, San Jose, Costa Rica and now Guatemala.

Flight schedule between Guatemala and Cancun

  • Guatemala City – Cancun Flight AV 650 GUA 10:35 – CUN 13:10 Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Cancun – Guatemala City Flight AV 650 CUN 14:10 – GUA 14:45 Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The route is operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers and offers 5,900 seats per month. Promotional fares are available from USD 216 round trip. The airline competes in this segment with Volaris and TAG Airlines.

In December 2022, Avianca reactivated its domestic operation in Guatemala, being the only airline that operates A320 internally to Tikal, one of the most outstanding tourist sectors in Central America.

As part of its improvements for passenger service, the airline has available 4 digital kiosks that offer a convenience to manage boarding pass printing services, baggage tag and purchase of additional services. So far this year, Avianca has mobilized almost half a million passengers and operated more than 3,800 flights in Guatemala.

According to information compiled by Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), during the period from January to July 2023, 305,784 passengers were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 71.7% between Guatemala and Mexico in 3,423 operations. This represents a 46.1% increase in passenger traffic compared to last year’s levels.
