Azores Airlines increases its operations in Portugal

Azores Airlines is strengthening connectivity between the Azores and Portugal by adding a new route and increasing capacity on an existing service. The company is optimizing its operations to meet the high demand according to the season.

Daily flight between Lajes and Lisbon

For the winter season, Azores Airlines is scheduling to fly daily between Lisbon and the island of Terceira starting October 29, 2023, an increase of two weekly flights compared to the same period in 2022. This service will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 168 seats.

The airline’s offer in Lajes during the winter season offers two weekly flights between Terceira and Porto and one weekly frequency between Terceira and Boston. In total, the airline will have an offer of 3,096 weekly seats to and from Lajes for the winter.

New service to Faro

Azores Airlines expands its offer in Ponta Delgada with a new non-stop flight to Faro, the new service will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft for 168 seats. In this way the airline expands its schedule in mainland Portugal, adding Faro to Lisbon and Porto, to the flights it operates regularly throughout the year.

Flight schedule between Ponta Delgada and Faro

  • Flight S4 198: Ponta Delgada 09:00 – Faro 12:25 Wednesday and Sunday.
  • Flight S4 199: Faro 13:25 – Ponta Delgada 15:05 Wednesday and Sunday.

Faro is a very popular tourist destination in Portugal, the new route will consolidate the airline’s position in the domestic market by expanding its route portfolio and increasing network connectivity in the Azores. This connection will also allow tourists from North America to connect to Faro via Ponta Delgada

Azores Airlines reinforces its air operation due to high demand

In view of the increased demand for flights to the Azores Archipelago, particularly during the last days of August and early September, specifically on routes between the Azores and the mainland, the airline will schedule 670 additional seats.

The increase in capacity is due to the limitations of available airport slots. The supply of seats was also consolidated with the reinforcement of SATA Air Açores’ inter-island operation.

During the 2023 IATA summer season 2023 (between March 28 and October 28), SATA Air Açores plans to operate about 13,300 flights (+5% compared to the same period in 2022), and Azores Airlines plans to operate about 6,300 flights (+12% compared to the same period in 2022).
