The Regional Government of Madeira, Portugal has announced that Venezuelan authorities have granted a flight between Caracas and Madeira departing from Lisbon for the 2024 summer season. This service will boost the strong VFR (friends and/or friends visiting) demand between Venezuela and the archipelago.
The last operation between Madeira and Maiquetia Airport was on January 10, 2016 on its TAP Air Portugal service operated on Airbus A330-200s. Previously, the Portuguese airline came to operate from Funchal, Porto and Lisbon to the Venezuelan capital. TAP’s current schedule in Venezuela offers three weekly flights between Lisbon and Caracas.
At the end of August this year, the TAP Air Portugal team in Venezuela met with representatives of the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) with the aim of expanding air connectivity between Venezuela and Portugal with new services.
«This issue has been the subject of work for a long time. I remind you that at the end of May, immediately after the Flower Festival, on the 24th to be more precise, Madeira was received by the new TAP administration, being the first external entity received by this new administration. and where the challenge of resuming the connection from Caracas to Madeira became a priority for us«, stated the regional secretary of Tourism, Eduardo Jesus.
For the moment, air tickets are not yet available for sale, as well as details of frequencies, schedules and type of aircraft. If this service materializes, it would be TAP’s only transatlantic route from Funchal.
