Deutsche Aircraft has selected Akaer to manufacture the front fuselage of the new sustainable turboprop aircraft, the Dornier D328eco. The aircraft will be capable of carrying 40 passengers and will be 100% compatible with sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
In addition, the Brazilian company will be responsible for industrialization, tooling, prototype manufacturing, and related design studies.
Akaer, which has extensive experience in design engineering and complete front fuselage assembly, has contributed to more than 50 projects, demonstrating the highest standards in the aerospace industry.
Cesar Silva, CEO of Akaer, commented: «The D328eco represents a significant milestone in global aviation, heralding more sustainable and efficient flights. For Akaer, being part of this important project and playing a fundamental role in front fuselage production is a matter of great pride, further consolidating our position as a top-tier company.»
Dave Jackson, CEO of Deutsche Aircraft, noted: «The commitment and demonstrated expertise by Akaer throughout this process were crucial in our decision-making. Akaer is one of the key players in the Brazilian aerospace industry, and we are delighted to collaborate on this front fuselage project, which is a milestone in the D328eco program.»
D328eco Program
The D328eco is the latest regional turboprop aircraft launched by Deutsche Aircraft. Powered by two PW127XT-S engines from Pratt and Whitney Canada, this aircraft will have the capacity to transport up to 40 passengers.
The aircraft will be adaptable for various operations, including passenger transport, aerial rescue, military operations, firefighting, and aeromedical services.
The D328eco is designed to operate on airports with short runways or soft terrain (earth, gravel, or grass). It will be 100% compatible with SAF-PtL and other fuel blends, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 95%.
The cabin can be pressurized to an altitude of 8,000 ft, providing greater comfort to passengers. Additionally, it will be the first aircraft with less than 90 seats to be equipped with Garmin Companion avionics, featuring a three-screen glass cockpit.
Brazil, a Growing Market
The partnership between Deutsche Aircraft and Akaer will further drive the development of regional aviation in Brazil. The country has invested around $600 million to connect various communities spread across the territory, which are not reached by airlines.
Brazil boasts the world’s second-largest general aviation fleet, making it a potential market for the D328eco. The new aircraft will be capable of fulfilling a wide range of missions.
Akaer collaborated with Embraer on the KC-390 multi-mission aircraft program and played a significant role in the development of Gripen E fighters for the Brazilian Air Force, working closely with Saab.
The first front fuselage of the D328eco is expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, produced at Akaer‘s facilities in São José dos Campos.
