Lufthansa’s cabin crew union, Unabhängige Flugbegleiter Organisation (UFO), announced on Saturday (9) that its members have voted to take further industrial action that will affect the airline’s operations.

This, they say, is because «management continues to refuse to adequately address our wage demands».

The strike will run from Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 March, from 4am to 11pm respectively.

All Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine flights departing from Frankfurt on Tuesday and all departures from Munich Airport on Wednesday will be affected.

«We call on all Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine cabin crew members mentioned in the respective strike notices to stop working to the extent specified therein. It is now up to the employer to respond appropriately to our wage demands,» said Joachim Vázquez Bürger, Chairman of the UFO Executive Board, who further stressed that the demands are reasonable and fair considering that on Thursday Lufthansa Group reported profits of 1.7 billion euros over the period 2023.

«The cabin crew must also participate in this success and the concessions made during the coronavirus crisis must be adequately compensated,» concluded Vázquez Bürger.

Harry Jaeger, UFO’s Head of Collective Bargaining Policy and chief negotiator, said that there have been 15 rounds of negotiations in which Lufthansa has not been favourable to the orders. «We cannot understand this. We would have liked to find good results for our colleagues at the negotiating table, as has been the norm in the past,» he said.

Via its Twitter account, Lufthansa said it «anticipates significant impacts on the flight schedule» and that affected passengers will receive information about cancellations or rescheduling options via e-mail tomorrow.

Lufthansa’s operations had already been affected this week after the Verdi union, which brings together ground service workers, staged a 60-hour strike between the night of Wednesday 6 and the morning of Saturday 9.
