easyJet announced the opening of a three-aircraft base at London Southend (SEN) for March 2025. The investment will create approximately 130 direct jobs for pilots and crew members.
The United Kingdom is easyJet’s largest market, accounting for 56% of its passengers. This announcement comes as the airline prepares for the highest operational capacity in its history during a summer season, with over 57 million seats and 70 new routes from the UK.
Johan Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, said: «We are delighted to announce another three-aircraft base in the UK, at London Southend Airport. This will create hundreds of jobs and offer more choices to consumers with new routes and holiday packages.»
«Our continued growth and investment in the UK highlight the importance of this market, where we will operate more flights than ever this year. Our customers choose our flights and holidays because of our trusted brand, unrivaled network, and great value fares,» he added.
The new London Southend base will feature three Airbus A320neo aircraft, each with a capacity of 186 passengers.
The airline already offers international routes from London Southend to Amsterdam, Geneva, Faro, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, and Paris Charles de Gaulle. easyJet has transported over seven million passengers since it began operations at SEN in 2012.
The arrival of new aircraft allows the low-cost carrier to launch six new routes to Pisa, Gran Canaria, Dalaman, Antalya, Marrakech, and Enfidha in Tunisia. easyJet customers will be able to purchase tickets from SEN for the summer 2025 season starting May 17, for flights beginning May 1, 2025.
John Upton, CEO of London Southend Airport, stated: «We are thrilled to welcome an easyJet base at London Southend, supporting and creating hundreds of local jobs, as well as providing convenient, new, and returning connections to many popular leisure and city destinations.»
