Direct Flights from Amman to Washington D.C.: Royal Jordanian Announces New Service

Gustavo Roe

Royal Jordanian expands its offering to North America with the introduction of the Amman-Washington route with two weekly flights. Currently, the airline’s North American network includes services to New York-JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Montreal, and Toronto-Pearson. It also has American Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the United States, as a Oneworld partner.

In May 2022, United began nonstop service between Amman and Washington, which was suspended in July 2024 due to the Hamas and Hezbollah conflicts. In the coming years, Royal Jordanian will expand its fleet with Airbus A320neo, Boeing 787-9, and Embraer E190-E2 aircraft.

Flight schedule between Amman (AMM) and Washington (IAD)

Starts on March 23, 2025.

  • Flight RJ 282: AMM 11:45 – IAD 17:45 Tuesday and Sunday.
  • Flight RJ 283: IAD 20:50 – AMM 15:45+1 Tuesday and Sunday.

The route will be operated with Boeing 787-8 aircraft with a capacity of 270 seats in two classes: 24 Business Class and 246 Economy. The flight will cover approximately 9,600 kilometers and have a duration of 13 hours westbound and 11 hours and 35 minutes eastbound.

The airline has issued an unconventional announcement to reveal that it will begin operating direct flights to Washington D.C.’s International Airport.

The promotional video, which includes subtle references to former President Donald Trump, surprised many and stood out for using a political figure to promote a new route.

The video carries the message: “He’s back! And we’ll take you right to the center of the action. Fly nonstop to Washington DC. Stay tuned!»

This marketing strategy, evoking a polarizing political character, is an interesting development in the aviation sector, raising questions about the influence of celebrities and political leaders in advertising campaigns. Watch the commercial below.
