Murcia Airport Launches Incentive Program with 50% Rebate for Training Flights

The Región de Murcia International Airport (AIRM) has launched a new incentive program aimed at airlines conducting training flights. This scheme includes a rebate of up to 50% on landing fees and aims to facilitate operations related to crew training. According to the airport operator, the program came into effect on November 1, 2024, and will initially run until October 31, 2026.

The initiative, approved in October, seeks to position the Región de Murcia International Airport as an attractive destination for this type of operation by combining economic incentives with the operational advantages offered by the terminal. According to Aena, these advantages include favorable weather conditions, modern facilities, and an optimal operating environment.

Ryanair kicks off training flights

Ryanair was the first airline to benefit from the program, using AIRM’s facilities since last week for landing, takeoff, and approach maneuvers with Boeing 737 aircraft. These operations can last up to six hours, including the use of surrounding airspace.

Aena highlights that these activities are scheduled well in advance and are integrated in a way that is compatible with the airport’s regular operations. “Close collaboration between the airline, the control tower service, and the AIRM Operations Center is key to the success of these operations,” they noted.

A new business model

According to AIRM, the goal of this incentive is not only to attract training flights but also to explore new business lines that expand the airport’s activities. The Murcia terminal is confident that these advantageous conditions will solidify its position as a strategic hub for crew training.

Ryanair’s initial commitment could set a precedent for other airlines to choose AIRM as a base for this type of operation, potentially boosting the dynamism of the Región de Murcia’s airport infrastructure.
