The Regulatory Agency of the National Airport System (ORSNA) has regulated the flexible use of check-in counters upon request from airlines at Ezeiza Airport.
From now on, airlines will be able to temporarily request a greater number of counters based on their operational needs, which will allow for optimized airport infrastructure and improved quality of services provided.
In this way, the exclusivity of several sectors previously assigned to Aerolíneas Argentinas is eliminated, as this was considered an act of unfair competition, according to sources from the agency. They also indicated that until now, each airline had been allocated a fixed and arbitrary number of counters, distributed to consolidate abuses of dominant positions.
Coordinated Work
This measure is the result of coordinated efforts between the concessionaire and ORSNA, aimed at improving efficiency, especially during peak seasons when passenger traffic increases. The objective is to reduce waiting times and expedite the baggage check-in process, resulting in a faster and more satisfactory experience for users.
The resolution stipulates that check-in counters will be assigned based on availability and the type of flight (domestic or international). The counters will be operational three hours prior to the scheduled flight and up to 30 minutes before departure, providing greater flexibility for airlines.
For airlines operating simultaneous flights, counters will be allocated starting 3 hours and 30 minutes before the first scheduled departure and concluding 30 minutes before the last departure within that block, according to the operational needs at the time.
Aircraft Parking Positions
The regulation also covers the optimization of aircraft parking positions at “Ministro Pistarini” International Airport.
The resolution organizes aircraft parking on operational aprons, determining the order of assignment based on the time elapsed between an aircraft’s arrival at the airport and its departure for a new flight.
Regarding turnaround times (time spent at the airport), a maximum of 2 hours is established for domestic flights and 4 hours for international flights, aiming to streamline operations and improve airport capacity.
Maintenance
Additionally, airlines based at Ezeiza are permitted to carry out aircraft maintenance work only in parking positions located on operational aprons, which are not designated for passenger boarding and disembarkation.
This measure ensures that platforms intended for regular flight operations remain clear, allowing for a continuous flow of aircraft and avoiding delays in boarding and departure processes.
This approach, based on aircraft rotation, aims to reorganize operations on the airport’s commercial platform, optimizing the flow of aircraft and reducing waiting times, thereby increasing the availability of space in the airport’s busiest areas.
