    Approximately at 1 pm local time, a Cessna 172H Skyhawk hard landed and caught fire on a bridge in Haulover Inlet Bridge, near Haulover Beach, Florida.

    Update 21:47 (GMT -3): The death of one of those involved has been confirmed, while the other five have sustained injuries of varying degrees of severity.

    The aircraft, with registration N8845Z, took off from Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport bound to Key West International Airport with three people on board.

    According to data shared in FlightRadar24 it took off at 12:32 local and reached an altitude of 1200 feet but for reasons that are yet to be established, it was forced to attempt an emergency landing on the bridge.

    The Miami Herald reports that at least one person was taken to a trauma facility, but the total number of affected people and their condition is still uncertain.

    FAA released a statement regarding the crash:

    “A single-engine Cessna 172 lost engine power and landed on the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Route A1A in Miami around 1 p.m. local time today, striking a vehicle while landing. There were three people onboard. The aircraft departed from Fort Lauderdale International Airport with a planned destination of Key West International Airport.

    The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates.”
