Aerolíneas Argentinas began flying to the Caribbean from Tucumán
Tucumán restores international flights with a new direct connection to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic's main tourist destination.
On January 5, Teniente Benjamín Matienzo International Airport, serving San Miguel de Tucumán (TUC), resumed international flights by connecting with Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic.
Flight AR 1338 departed at 4:54 PM with 128 passengers on board a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with 170 seats, divided into 8 seats in Club Cóndor and 162 in Economy. On the return leg, flight AR 1339, operated by the same Boeing 737 MAX 8, landed in Tucumán on January 6 with 75 passengers.
The new route will offer a total of 17,680 seats in 2025.
- Tucumán – Punta Cana flight AR 1338 TUC 4:15 PM · 10:30 PM PUJ / Sunday.
- Punta Cana – Tucumán flight AR 1339 PUJ 11:45 PM · 8:15 AM (+1) TUC / Sunday.
In November, it was announced that Aerolíneas Argentinas would maintain the flights year-round, taking advantage of the high demand for the Dominican Republic.
According to the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism, between January and October 2024, the country received 191,068 Argentine tourists, 27% of whom used connecting flights operated by airlines such as Copa, Avianca, SKY, or LATAM.
This new service marks the recovery of international flights in Tucumán, which lost its direct connection to Lima with LATAM in March 2020 due to the outbreak of the pandemic. In 2018, the airport also had services to São Paulo and Santiago de Chile with the same airline.
