Aerus to resume commercial flights at Lázaro Cárdenas Airport starting in April
The route will connect with Uruapan and central Mexico, operating six weekly flights with Cessna aircraft
Starting next month, General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río National Airport will once again offer regular commercial flights, following the announcement of new routes operated by AERUS, in coordination with federal and state authorities.
The relaunch of air connectivity was confirmed during an official event led by Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, along with representatives from the Mexican Navy Secretariat (SEMAR), the Mexico City Airport Group (GACM), and the National Port System Administration of Lázaro Cárdenas (ASIPONA).
AERUS will operate the route using Cessna Grand Caravan EX aircraft, enabling flights between Lázaro Cárdenas, Uruapan, and central Mexico, with six weekly flights (one per day except Saturdays). The route was previously operated by Aeromar until it ceased operations in 2023.

“At Aerus, we continue to promote regional connectivity and the development of air transport in Mexico,” said Javier Herrera, CEO of the airline. “Our commitment is to provide a safe, efficient, and comfortable service, offering passengers a fast transportation option that supports tourism and business in these key regions,” he added.
The reactivation is part of an agreement signed in August 2024 between the GACM and ASIPONA to improve and maintain airport infrastructure, as well as provide guidance on airport management and operations.

Captain José Arturo Vallejo Hernández, representing ASIPONA, stated that the airport has over 140 million pesos approved in the Investment Portfolio for the remodeling, equipment, and reactivation of the airfield (~USD 6.8 million).
Additionally, through SEMAR Trust 80784 for the Strengthening of the Airport System, another 45 million pesos have been allocated for projects that, according to officials, will strengthen air connectivity from Lázaro Cárdenas to the rest of the country and support the economic development of the region.
According to GACM, the incorporation of new routes into the Naval Airport Network aligns with the goal of reviving regional air connectivity and adapting airport services to the needs of the sector and users.
Aerus is a Mexican regional airline that mainly operates in the northeast, southeast, and Caribbean regions of the country, with domestic routes and service to the United States.
Its fleet includes six Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft, each seating nine passengers, and it expects to receive its first two Cessna SkyCouriers in 2025, configured for 19 seats, according to data from Cirium.
