Air Algérie cancels A350-1000 order, opts for additional A330-900's
Air Algérie has adjusted its fleet modernization strategy, canceling its order for two Airbus A350-1000s and replacing them with three additional A330-900s. This move increases its A330neo order to eight units, aligning with the airline's goal to enhance connectivity and reduce fuel consumption by 25% per seat
Air Algérie canceled its order for two Airbus A350-1000's and replaced it with an order for three additional A330-900's, according to an update in Airbus's order portfolio.
In June 2023, the Algerian airline placed an order for seven wide-body Airbus aircraft: five A330neos and two A350-1000s, the longest version of the Airbus A350 XWB.
This decision aimed to enhance transcontinental connectivity and replace its fleet of eight Airbus A330-200's. With this recent adjustment, the airline has increased its A330neo order from five to eight units.
Currently, Air Algérie’s A330 fleet operates routes to Beijing, Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, London/Heathrow, Medina, Montreal/Trudeau, Paris/Charles de Gaulle, Paris/Orly, and Jeddah.
The incorporation of these new aircraft will allow the airline to reduce fuel consumption per seat by 25% and improve operational flexibility, thanks to the similarity in flight philosophy among its fleet.
Additionally, the A330-900's will feature the Airspace cabin, which enhances the passenger experience with greater individual space, larger overhead compartments, the latest onboard entertainment and connectivity systems, and a new lighting system designed for comfort.
Air Algérie’s current long-haul fleet comprises eight Airbus A330-200's. For regional and European routes, the airline operates a fleet of 32 Boeing 737 NGs, including 5 737-600's, 2 737-700's, and 25 737-800's, while awaiting delivery of nine Boeing 737 MAX 9's. For domestic operations, it uses 15 ATR 72 aircraft.
