Argentina’s main airport once again restricts access to terminal due to increase in contagions

As reported yesterday, different players in the airline industry in Argentina had warned about possible disruptions that could occur in operations due to the advance of the third wave of COVID-19 infections in the country, which also affects aeronautical personnel.

As a result, the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System (ORSNA) has made progress in coordinating actions with the Airport Security Police to restrict access of people to certain sectors of the terminal of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, the main domestic airport of Buenos Aires.

According to airport sources in contact with Aviacionline, between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM; and between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, as from January 4 and until January 8, only passengers with confirmed flights will be allowed access to the check-in sector.

The automatic access doors to this sector will be closed to implement the measure, leaving only two doors open, which will be controlled by the Airport Security Police. The mechanical escalators will only be able to operate in ascending direction during the restricted hours to allow the flow of passengers to the pre-boarding sector.

The check-in sector will be the only one, within the public areas, with restricted access. Accompanying persons and the general public will still be able to enter other sectors of the terminal.

Sources close to the airport informed that for the time being there are no plans to extend this measure to other Argentine airports.

Access to airports for companions and the general public had been reinstated at the end of September 2021.
