Avianca opens three new flights to the United States
New direct Avianca routes connecting Bogotá with Tampa, Medellín with Fort Lauderdale, and San José (Costa Rica) with Miami
Avianca launched the sale of three new routes connecting Central America and Colombia with the state of Florida, in the United States. This strategic move includes the addition of Tampa (TPA) as the airline's fourth destination in the state, alongside Miami (MIA), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and Orlando (MCO).
The new connections will begin operating in 2025, expanding options for passengers traveling between Latin America and the United States. The routes announced last month are:
Fort Lauderdale (FLL):
- Medellín/Rionegro (MDE)
- Managua (MGA)
Miami (MIA):
- San José (SJO)
- Guatemala City (GUA)
Tampa (TPA):
- Bogotá (BOG)
The routes available for purchase starting today are Bogotá-Tampa, Medellín-Fort Lauderdale, and San José (Costa Rica)-Miami.
Each of these routes will use Airbus A320 aircraft, with a capacity of 180 passengers. The Tampa route will connect with Bogotá and, from there, to 25 domestic destinations and 16 in South America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru.
With Avianca's addition, Tampa now hosts three Latin American airlines, joining Copa Airlines and Aeroméxico. Additionally, the city maintains connections with other destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico through airlines such as JetBlue, Southwest, and Bahamasair.
"After 2024 in which we consolidated the most extensive network in our history and transported the highest number of passengers in our 105 years, we are very excited to continue strengthening connectivity from Bogotá, Medellín, and San José to the United States, and to be very close to inaugurating a new destination: Tampa. We will continue working with authorities, airports, and partners to ensure the success of these routes," said David Alemán, Avianca's Sales Director for Colombia and South America.
