Avior Airlines proposes reactivation of flights between Colombia and Venezuela.

Avior Airlines submitted a proposal to the Venezuelan government authorities to reactivate the air commercial market between Venezuela and Colombia, which has been suspended since March 13, 2020, due to the travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 sanitary emergency.

In a press release, the airline informed that the document was presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Transportation; the Joint Colombian-Venezuelan Parliamentary Commission of the National Assembly; and the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC).

In the five years prior to the pandemic, 1.6 million passengers were transported between Colombia and Venezuela.

«We are willing to provide, from a technical and human point of view, our best effort for a necessary and prompt resumption of activities,» said Juan Bracamonte, CEO of Avior Airlines.

The Venezuelan government currently only allows regular flights to Bolivia, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Turkey, and Russia. Recently, special commercial flights to Spain, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and soon Argentina were enabled. This measure continues impacting passengers wishing to travel to Colombia who must use other airports such as Panama Tocumen (PTY) or Santo Domingo (SDQ), benefiting third countries.

According to an analysis carried out by the company, it is estimated that in the next four years 1.65 million passengers will be transported between Venezuela and Colombia between domestic and foreign companies, of which Avior Airlines expects to attract 702,855 based on the progressive development of its operations.

Avior Airlines is planning an itinerary to connect Caracas (CCS), Maracaibo (MAR), Valencia (VLN) and Porlamar (PMV) with Bogota (BOG), Medellin (MDE) and Cali (CLO).

Bracamonte assures that the personnel and aircraft are ready to restart operations to Colombia once the authorities give the green light to start flights.

«We are about to start flights to Barquisimeto and Puerto Ordaz from Caracas and most probably El Vigía – Porlamar in a direct flight, we will soon return to Mexico, via Cancun. In addition, we will resume international operations from Barcelona to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, thus expanding our international options», continued the executive.
