CAE has inaugurated its first air traffic services (ATS) training center in Montreal, Canada, in collaboration with NAV CANADA. This partnership aims to train 500 air traffic controllers and specialists by 2028, addressing the global demand for highly skilled professionals in the sector. The facility represents a key step in CAE's diversification strategy, with plans to expand ATS training to other regions
CAE inaugurated its first air traffic services (ATS) training center at its campus in Montreal, Canada, marking a significant step in diversifying its portfolio of services, which already includes training for pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, and cabin crew.
In October 2024, the company partnered with NAV CANADA, the world's largest private air navigation service provider in terms of airspace size, to train air traffic controllers (ATC) and flight service specialists (FSS).
Marc Parent, President and CEO of CAE, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “We are excited to inaugurate CAE’s first ATS training center alongside NAV CANADA. As pioneers in aviation learning sciences, we are uniquely positioned to meet the growing global demand for highly trained air traffic services personnel by partnering with leading air navigation service providers.”
The center has already welcomed its first students and aims to train 500 air traffic professionals by 2028. CAE utilizes NAV CANADA's curriculum and materials for initial training, while NAV CANADA delivers specialized, advanced, and on-the-job training courses.
An innovative and global approach
Marie-Christine Cloutier, Vice President of Strategy, Performance, and Marketing at CAE and Leader of the new ATS division, highlighted the role of innovation in training: “As air navigation service providers accelerate the modernization of their airspace, it is crucial to place equal importance on innovation in training to prepare the next generation of air traffic personnel.”
Looking ahead, CAE plans to expand its global network, comprising over 70 facilities across five continents, to offer ATS training in other regions with increasing demand. This initiative aligns with the industry's growing need for highly skilled air traffic services professionals, driven by rising air travel and airspace modernization.
