GOL Linhas Aéreas is expanding its fleet of 737-800BCF freighter aircraft in collaboration with leasing company BBAM, strengthening its air cargo operations to serve the e-commerce giant Mercado Libre (or Mercado Livre, in Portuguese).
With this addition, there are now seven aircraft serving the platform in Brazil, as part of a contract that could include up to 12 planes in the coming years, depending on market development.
The arrival of this additional aircraft, a 737-800BCF model manufactured in 2006 and previously operated by Air Transat, was reported last week by our partner media outlet in Brazil, <a href="https://aeroin.net/gol-recebe-hoje-boeing-737-que-ja-serviu-a-justin-trudeau/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AEROIN</a>.
The aircraft, identified by serial number 30696, landed in Belo Horizonte under a lease agreement with GOL. In Brazil, the jet will operate under the registration PS-GFG.
It is a 737-800BCF, an acronym for Boeing Converted Freighter, a term that refers to passenger planes converted into pure freighters through a modification project carried out by the manufacturer itself, although it can also be executed by associated workshops.

GOL Increases 737-800BCF Freighter Fleet to Serve Mercado Libre in Brazil

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) introducing a new Airworthiness Directive (AD) targeting Boeing 767-300 aircraft modified for cargo operations under a specific Supplemental Type Certificate (STC).
The directive arises following the detection of an improper installation in the first officer’s pitot-static system during the conversion of these aircraft from passenger to cargo configurations. According to the report, the rigid pipes and flexible hoses in the system exhibit configurations that could lead to water or moisture accumulation, posing a risk of malfunction in navigation instruments.
The FAA proposal mandates a visual inspection of the pitot-static system’s rigid pipes and flexible hoses for potential low points that could form water traps. Additionally, the agency calls for investigative and corrective actions if irregularities are found, including the installation of new components such as brackets, fittings, and rigid pipes.
Operators will have a timeframe of 36 months from the directive’s effective date to comply with these measures. This AD applies to a total of 88 Boeing 767-300 aircraft registered in the United States and modified under STC ST02040SE.
<h3>Estimated Costs</h3>
The FAA has estimated the following costs to comply with the AD:
<ul>
<li>Basic inspection: $170 per aircraft, amounting to a total cost of $14,960 for the affected fleet.</li>
<li>Additional corrective actions (if required): $1,535 per aircraft, including 11 hours of labor and $600 in parts.</li>
</ul>
The notice is based on a similar directive issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI), which identified unsafe conditions in these aircraft. The directive incorporates procedures described in Service Bulletin 368-34-106 by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., published in August 2024.
The public and stakeholders may submit comments on the proposal until January 31, 2025. Comments must be submitted through official FAA channels, such as the regulations.gov portal.
The FAA considers the improper installation of the pitot-static system to represent a significant flight safety risk. If unaddressed, water or moisture accumulation could compromise the functionality of the first officer’s navigation systems, increasing the potential for in-flight failures.

The aircraft landed in Montevideo at 12:47 PM (local time) after a 9-hour and 37-minute flight, which included a stop in Lima. The exclusive vehicle, a <a href="https://www.bugatti.com/">Bugatti Chiron Sport «110 ans Bugatti»</a>, belonged to Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny. This model is one of only 20 units manufactured by the French automaker.
The operation was managed by Red Logistics, a company specializing in the transport of luxury automobiles, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/nicoovacca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nico Vacca</a>, who deals in sports cars in Miami.

Lufthansa Cargo Celebrates 30 Years: Key Achievements and Future Plans

Global air cargo demand continued its upward trend in October 2024, increasing by 9.8% compared to the same month last year. This marks the 15th consecutive month of growth in the sector, according to data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs), rose by 10.3% in international operations, while capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTKs), increased by 5.9% compared to October 2023. The growth in capacity was largely driven by an 8.5% rise in international bellyhold capacity, while dedicated freighter capacity increased by 5.6%, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth, with volumes approaching 2021 peak levels.
IATA’s Director General, Willie Walsh, stated, “Air cargo markets continued their strong performance in October, with demand rising 9.8% year-on-year and capacity up 5.9%. Global air cargo yields, including surcharges, continue to rise, up 10.6% on 2023 and 49% above 2019 levels.”

Several factors contribute to the demand growth. In September, global industrial production increased by 1.6%, while global goods trade grew by 2.4%, marking the sixth consecutive month of expansion. This rise in trade is partly due to businesses stockpiling inventories ahead of potential disruptions, such as the ongoing U.S. port strike.
Despite these positive trends, some indicators suggest uncertainty. The global manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) was above the 50-mark, indicating growth, but the PMI for new export orders remained below 50, signaling ongoing weakness in global trade. Additionally, inflation in the U.S. and the EU showed slight increases in October, raising concerns about consumer purchasing power and economic dynamics.
Regional Air Cargo Performance in October
Regionally, Latin American carriers saw the highest growth, with a 18.5% increase in year-on-year demand. Capacity in the region grew by 5.8%, reflecting solid market expansion. In contrast, African airlines recorded the slowest growth, with a 1.6% increase in demand, although their capacity rose by 7.7%.
Asia-Pacific airlines led the growth in terms of cargo volume, with a 13.4% increase in year-on-year demand. Capacity in the region grew by 9.3%, further contributing to the overall market expansion. North American and European airlines also saw demand increases of 9.5% and 7.6%, respectively, with moderate capacity increases of 5.8% and 3.9%.

Air Cargo Continued to Grow in October, but Trump’s Arrival Sparks «Some Caution» for 2025

Avianca Cargo renewed its brand identity after three years of transformations in its operations. According to the company, this update reinforces its focus on meeting customer needs and strengthening commercial alliances. The unveiling took place on November 13 at the Air Cargo Forum in Miami.
The airline introduced its new slogan, «We&#8217;re doing it for you,» which, according to Avianca Cargo, reflects its commitment to personalized service and logistics solutions. Diogo Elias, the company&#8217;s senior vice president, stated: «Our transformation positions us as one of the top six cargo airlines in the world. We have elevated our service levels, updated our fleet, and enhanced product offerings while ensuring consistent and efficient operations.»
<h4>Increased frequencies and new destinations</h4>
During 2024, Avianca Cargo increased cargo imports to Colombia by 10% compared to 2023. It also expanded its frequencies to Los Angeles by 188% and to Chile by 150%. The airline began operating the Bogotá-Paris route with seven weekly flights.
In Colombia, it operates 40 weekly cargo frequencies and 88 passenger flights on widebody aircraft. According to the company, its weekly cargo capacity reaches 4,700 tons, with Miami (82%), Madrid (5%), and Los Angeles (4%) as the main export destinations. Avianca Cargo projects a 5% increase in cargo frequencies to and from Colombia by 2025.

Avianca Cargo operates Airbus A330 aircraft, which, according to the company, represent the most modern and fuel-efficient fleet in the region. The company highlights that its fleet is 51% younger than the regional average, reducing CO2 emissions.
In collaboration with climate technology company CHOOOSE™, it launched a platform for customers to monitor and offset the carbon emissions generated by their shipments. According to Avianca Cargo, this tool supports environmental projects in Latin America.

The Colombian cargo airline Aerosucre S.A. announced that it will begin operating regular flights to Guyana starting in the first quarter of 2025. The growth of air transportation in the country is largely due to the expansion of routes by airlines, both domestically and internationally (2023 also felt the impact of Viva and Ultra Air ceasing operations). Between January and August, 21,739,000 passengers were transported on domestic routes and 15,211,000 on international routes, adding up to a total of 5,018,000 additional travelers compared to the same period last year.

This increase is equivalent to 63,972 additional tons. In August 2024, 75,169 tons were transported, divided between 11,769 tons on domestic routes and 63,400 tons on international routes. Over the past twelve months, the total cargo and mail volume reached 933,079 tons, with an increase of 8.4%.

Record Growth: Colombia’s Airlines Transport 15.9% More Passengers in 2024

The <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/latam-cargo/">LATAM Group</a> has decided to dispose of three Boeing 767-300 freighters from its cargo subsidiaries, which currently operate 21 units, according to <a href="https://cargofacts.com/allposts/fleets/latam-sells-production-767-freighter/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">CargoFacts</a>. The first of these aircraft, with serial number 30,780 and registration N532LA, was acquired by Jetran in late October. This 767 is currently parked in Roswell, New Mexico.

Despite the sale, LATAM has not announced a reduction in the number of Boeing 767F freighters, which is expected to remain at 21 units. The three sold 767s will be replaced by other freighters. The project, which required an investment of USD 1.5 million, was carried out in collaboration with the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA), the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Committee of Producers and Exporters of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables to the U.S. (COPEXEU). It also included the participation of the General Customs Directorate and the Airport Security Police.
<h4>Features of the new station</h4>
The station covers an area of 300 m², with 220 m² of covered space, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a motorized gate for hermetic truck docking, air curtains, sanitary modules, and segregated spaces to ensure airtight conditions during inspections. According to AAC, the facility includes eight inspection stations and separates the processes for receiving and dispatching samples, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
This facility will allow products to be inspected before entering the Export Perishables Chamber, optimizing operational flow and ensuring that food complies with U.S. sanitary requirements.

The pallets, manufactured by REHRIG PACIFIC COMPANY, are composed of 50% recycled High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and 50% virgin plastic.
This new alternative not only enhances the pallets’ durability but also features a distinctive red color for easier identification. LATAM thus becomes the only operator in Chile to use this coloration, optimizing the pallets return logistics.
In addition to being lighter and more durable, these recycled plastic pallets don&#8217;t require constant maintenance and are more hygienic, as they don&#8217;t accumulate fungi or bacteria. Their anti-slip structure minimizes the risk of cargo shifting and withstands extreme temperatures ranging from -20 °C to 60 °C without losing their properties.

During the 2023-2024 season, approximately USD 2.2 billion worth of cherries were shipped to China, according to ProChile with data from the National Customs Service.
In addition to cherries, this commemorative flight carried a shipment of salmon, a product that China Eastern Cold Chain began exporting in 2017. According to figures from the Chinese company, more than 5,500 tons of Chilean salmon have been exported, valued at over USD 48 million.
Total salmon and trout exports to China reached USD 311 million in 2023, a 65% increase compared to 2022, according to ProChile with figures from the National Customs Service.

DHL Express and Shell signed a one-year agreement to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) at Brussels Airport. According to DHL, the contract includes the delivery of 25,000 tons of SAF to the airport through a pipeline system. This fuel, made from waste and residual materials, holds ISCC Plus certification, ensuring compliance with international sustainability standards.
The company highlights that using SAF could reduce CO2e emissions by approximately 80,000 tons compared to fossil fuels. This initiative will be implemented through the GoGreen Plus program, which allows DHL customers to opt for air transport with lower emissions.
“Our customers benefit from our growing SAF coverage in different regions, now including our investment in SAF at Brussels Airport. In addition to efficiency improvements, SAF is currently the most significant way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in air transport” said Travis Cobb, Executive Vice President of Global Network Operations and Aviation at DHL Express.

By supplying SAF, we are equipping the industry and our customers with low-carbon solutions that support the transition to sustainable aviation”
The GoGreen Plus program, as explained by DHL, enables the reduction of indirect emissions, known as Scope 3 emissions, through an insetting approach that directly reduces emissions within the logistics sector. This approach is based on the “book and claim” model, which facilitates the voluntary reporting of these reductions.
DHL has set a goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In this context, the company aims to have 30% of its air operations powered by SAF by 2030.
