The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) introducing a new Airworthiness Directive (AD) targeting Boeing 767-300 aircraft modified for cargo operations under a specific Supplemental Type Certificate (STC).
The directive arises following the detection of an improper installation in the first officer’s pitot-static system during the conversion of these aircraft from passenger to cargo configurations. According to the report, the rigid pipes and flexible hoses in the system exhibit configurations that could lead to water or moisture accumulation, posing a risk of malfunction in navigation instruments.
The FAA proposal mandates a visual inspection of the pitot-static system’s rigid pipes and flexible hoses for potential low points that could form water traps. Additionally, the agency calls for investigative and corrective actions if irregularities are found, including the installation of new components such as brackets, fittings, and rigid pipes.
Operators will have a timeframe of 36 months from the directive’s effective date to comply with these measures. This AD applies to a total of 88 Boeing 767-300 aircraft registered in the United States and modified under STC ST02040SE.
<h3>Estimated Costs</h3>
The FAA has estimated the following costs to comply with the AD:
<ul>
<li>Basic inspection: $170 per aircraft, amounting to a total cost of $14,960 for the affected fleet.</li>
<li>Additional corrective actions (if required): $1,535 per aircraft, including 11 hours of labor and $600 in parts.</li>

The notice is based on a similar directive issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI), which identified unsafe conditions in these aircraft. The directive incorporates procedures described in Service Bulletin 368-34-106 by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., published in August 2024.
The public and stakeholders may submit comments on the proposal until January 31, 2025. Comments must be submitted through official FAA channels, such as the regulations.gov portal.
The FAA considers the improper installation of the pitot-static system to represent a significant flight safety risk. If unaddressed, water or moisture accumulation could compromise the functionality of the first officer’s navigation systems, increasing the potential for in-flight failures.

The International Air Cargo Association<a href="https://tiaca.org/"> (TIACA) </a> signed the joint declaration “Aviation 4 All”, an initiative promoted by the International Aviation Forum (IAF) that sets a clear vision for the global development of the sector. This announcement took place during the Air Cargo Forum (ACF) 2024, held from November 11 to 14 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

<section>The “Aviation 4 All” Declaration aims to establish concrete objectives to promote sustainable and prosperous growth in the aviation industry. To date, more than 40 organizations have signed this declaration, which includes key points such as:

“TIACA’s support for the Aviation 4 All declaration is a natural extension of the work we do on behalf of the industry,” said Steven Polmans, TIACA President, while Glyn Hughes, the association&#8217;s Director General, emphasized that “the contents of the declaration are fully aligned with what we consider essential for the sustainable growth and development of our industry.”

TIACA Signs “Aviation 4 All” Declaration at Air Cargo Forum 2024 in Miami Beach

An unusual movement will be observed this week at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), when a cargo flight of Air Canada arrives at this terminal in the interior of São Paulo.

Air Canada Cargo Expands Operations: First Flight to Campinas, São Paulo

Thirty years ago, on November 30, 1994, the company <a href="https://www.lufthansa-cargo.com/en/home">Lufthansa Cargo</a> was established, laying the groundwork for significant growth and innovation over the last three decades.
1994 &#8211; 2004: In its early years, the cargo business expanded with 737-300F, DC-8-73F aircraft, and later 747-200 and MD-11F freighters. The digitalization of logistics processes began, offering products and solutions to meet customer needs. Additionally, the company performed its first round-the-world flight in partnership with Air New Zealand and created the world&#8217;s first global cargo alliance, WOW, in collaboration with SAS Cargo and Singapore Airlines.

2005 &#8211; 2014: This period saw modernization and expansion. The cargo aircraft fleet was updated with more fuel-efficient models. AeroLogic was founded in collaboration with DHL Express to expand into the long-haul market. Additionally, the Frankfurt Animal Lounge and the Pharma Hub Frankfurt were inaugurated.
In 2013, the airline began a partnership with the «Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V.» alliance to provide faster support in crisis situations. That same year, the cargo aircraft fleet was modernized again: the first of five B777Fs was introduced during a major launch event.

2015 &#8211; 2024: In recent years, the company has observed an increase in digitalization, service expansion, and updates to its fleet and hubs. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the dynamics of the global market. The airline played a key role in mobilizing vital supply chains, distributing vaccines and masks during the health emergency. As a result, even passenger aircraft were temporarily converted into freighters, known as «preighters.»
During the fall, in collaboration with DB Schenker, the world&#8217;s first carbon dioxide emission-free freighter rotation was conducted. In 2021, the last MD-11 freighter was retired from the fleet, leaving only B777F models in operation. The following year, short- and medium-haul routes were added to the network using A321 freighters.
This enabled the inauguration of 13 new stations worldwide in 2023. In 2024, the first operation with A321 freighters was conducted from the Munich hub. Additionally, the company added a transpacific service to its schedule, establishing for the first time a direct connection between Vietnam and the United States.

Lufthansa Cargo Celebrates 30 Years: Key Achievements and Future Plans

Global air cargo demand continued its upward trend in October 2024, increasing by 9.8% compared to the same month last year. This marks the 15th consecutive month of growth in the sector, according to data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs), rose by 10.3% in international operations, while capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTKs), increased by 5.9% compared to October 2023. The growth in capacity was largely driven by an 8.5% rise in international bellyhold capacity, while dedicated freighter capacity increased by 5.6%, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth, with volumes approaching 2021 peak levels.
IATA’s Director General, Willie Walsh, stated, “Air cargo markets continued their strong performance in October, with demand rising 9.8% year-on-year and capacity up 5.9%. Global air cargo yields, including surcharges, continue to rise, up 10.6% on 2023 and 49% above 2019 levels.”
«While 2024 is shaping up to be a banner year for air cargo, we must look to 2025 with some caution. The incoming Trump Administration’s announced intention to impose significant tariffs on its top trading partners—Canada, China and Mexico—has the potential to upend global supply chains and undermine consumer confidence. The air cargo industry’s proven adaptability to rapidly evolving geopolitical and economic situations is likely to be tested as the Trump agenda unfolds,» he added.

<h3>Key Factors in the Operating Environment</h3>
Several factors contribute to the demand growth. In September, global industrial production increased by 1.6%, while global goods trade grew by 2.4%, marking the sixth consecutive month of expansion. This rise in trade is partly due to businesses stockpiling inventories ahead of potential disruptions, such as the ongoing U.S. port strike.
Despite these positive trends, some indicators suggest uncertainty. The global manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) was above the 50-mark, indicating growth, but the PMI for new export orders remained below 50, signaling ongoing weakness in global trade. Additionally, inflation in the U.S. and the EU showed slight increases in October, raising concerns about consumer purchasing power and economic dynamics.
Regional Air Cargo Performance in October
Regionally, Latin American carriers saw the highest growth, with a 18.5% increase in year-on-year demand. Capacity in the region grew by 5.8%, reflecting solid market expansion. In contrast, African airlines recorded the slowest growth, with a 1.6% increase in demand, although their capacity rose by 7.7%.
Asia-Pacific airlines led the growth in terms of cargo volume, with a 13.4% increase in year-on-year demand. Capacity in the region grew by 9.3%, further contributing to the overall market expansion. North American and European airlines also saw demand increases of 9.5% and 7.6%, respectively, with moderate capacity increases of 5.8% and 3.9%.

Performance on International Routes
On international routes, several major trade lanes continued to experience exceptional traffic levels. The Asia-North America route grew by 8.6% in October, while Europe-Asia saw a 14.3% increase, with both routes experiencing consecutive months of growth. Other notable routes included Middle East-Europe (+15.3%) and Middle East-Asia (+9%).
Airlines continue to benefit from rising e-commerce demand in the U.S. and Europe, while ongoing capacity limitations in ocean shipping favor air transport.

Air Cargo Continued to Grow in October, but Trump’s Arrival Sparks «Some Caution» for 2025

Avianca Cargo renewed its brand identity after three years of transformations in its operations. According to the company, this update reinforces its focus on meeting customer needs and strengthening commercial alliances. The unveiling took place on November 13 at the Air Cargo Forum in Miami.
The airline introduced its new slogan, «We&#8217;re doing it for you,» which, according to Avianca Cargo, reflects its commitment to personalized service and logistics solutions. Diogo Elias, the company&#8217;s senior vice president, stated: «Our transformation positions us as one of the top six cargo airlines in the world. We have elevated our service levels, updated our fleet, and enhanced product offerings while ensuring consistent and efficient operations.»
<h4>Increased frequencies and new destinations</h4>
During 2024, Avianca Cargo increased cargo imports to Colombia by 10% compared to 2023. It also expanded its frequencies to Los Angeles by 188% and to Chile by 150%. The airline began operating the Bogotá-Paris route with seven weekly flights.
In Colombia, it operates 40 weekly cargo frequencies and 88 passenger flights on widebody aircraft. According to the company, its weekly cargo capacity reaches 4,700 tons, with Miami (82%), Madrid (5%), and Los Angeles (4%) as the main export destinations. Avianca Cargo projects a 5% increase in cargo frequencies to and from Colombia by 2025.
<h4>Younger fleet and environmental commitments</h4>
Avianca Cargo operates Airbus A330 aircraft, which, according to the company, represent the most modern and fuel-efficient fleet in the region. The company highlights that its fleet is 51% younger than the regional average, reducing CO2 emissions.
In collaboration with climate technology company CHOOOSE™, it launched a platform for customers to monitor and offset the carbon emissions generated by their shipments. According to Avianca Cargo, this tool supports environmental projects in Latin America.
<h4>Operations expansion and certifications</h4>
The airline added four Airbus A330-300/200 P2F aircraft to its fleet as part of an investment strategy. The first aircraft joined in July 2024 with AeroUnion, while the remaining aircraft will be operational between 2025 and 2026.
Currently, Avianca Cargo connects 75 destinations through 220 weekly cargo flights and 1,400 passenger flights. It also launched a new cargo service between Liège and Miami in collaboration with Turkish Airlines.
Avianca Cargo reported earning four IATA CEIV certifications in the Pharma, Fresh, Live Animals, and Lithium Batteries categories, aimed at ensuring operational standards for handling sensitive goods.
<h4>Operational growth in 2024</h4>
During the third quarter of 2024, the airline increased its network load factor by more than 5% compared to the previous year. This result, according to Avianca Cargo, is due to the recovery of the cargo import market in Latin America and the renewal of its fleet.
The company also stated that it invested in infrastructure at its Bogotá and Miami terminals, increasing its peak season operating capacity by 83% and reducing turnaround times by 20%. Additionally, it implemented upgrades in its warehouses to reduce its carbon footprint, including more efficient refrigeration technologies in Medellín and Miami.

Avianca Cargo Unveils New Brand Identity After Transformational Years

KLM Catering Services (KCS) has taken an innovative step by deploying the world&#8217;s first fully electric and refrigerated catering trucks. This initiative is part of KLM&#8217;s commitment to achieving emission-free ground operations by 2030.
According to KCS&#8217;s General Manager, Michiel van der Eijk, the company aims to lead the adoption of new technologies in the sector, standing out as a pioneer with two 100% electric vehicles. He expressed pride in the initiative and emphasized that the team will be testing the new trucks over the coming months, as reported by <a href="https://aeroin.net/utilizando-caminhoes-volvo-catering-da-klm-e-o-primeiro-a-ter-veiculos-100-eletricos/?amp">Aeroin</a>.
<h4>Exclusively electric</h4>
The vehicles, in addition to being fully electric, are equipped with an electric motor for the refrigeration system. This results in significantly quieter operation, benefiting both drivers and other workers on airport runways.
The trucks were developed by two airport equipment suppliers, DOLL and Mallaghan, with chassis manufactured by Volvo. KCS plans to conduct intensive testing to evaluate the performance of the vehicles, their impact on the catering process, and ease of use. The information gathered during this phase will be used to optimize the trucks and efficiently integrate them into daily operations.
