Delta Air Lines is strengthening its presence in the transpacific market with the launch of a nonstop service to Melbourne from Los Angeles, its main hub on the U.S. West Coast. The new route positions Delta in direct competition with Qantas and United Airlines on this segment.
With this addition, Melbourne’s Tullamarine International Airport will now be served by two U.S. carriers.
This expansion means Delta will now operate in all three major Australian cities. In December 2024, the airline launched services to Brisbane. Delta’s South Pacific network now includes flights to Auckland (New Zealand), Papeete (Tahiti), Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne (Australia).
“Delta is one of the world’s largest airlines and is consistently ranked among the best in North America. We are thrilled to have them add Melbourne to their network, given the opportunities it brings for Victorians and local businesses,” said Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport.
