Delta Air Lines Unveils Special Airbus A350 Livery for Its Centennial Celebration
An Airbus A350 is the first to feature a special livery for the airline's centenary, and an Airbus A321neo is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.
An Airbus A350-900 belonging to Delta Air Lines has been painted with a custom livery to celebrate the airline's centenary. The aircraft rolled out of the paint hangar at the European manufacturer's facilities in Toulouse, France.
This is the first aircraft to feature the commemorative design, and an Airbus A321neo is expected to follow in the coming days with a similar livery. Speculation about Delta Air Lines celebrating its 100th anniversary with specially painted aircraft began circulating in November 2024, when an A321neo (serial number 12417) was spotted leaving the final assembly line with a distinctive tail design.
These rumors were confirmed on January 8, when the Airbus A350-900, which will be registered as N527DN, was photographed with its fuselage fully painted.
Delta Air Lines will celebrate its 100th anniversary on March 2, cementing its place among the three largest airlines in the United States and as one of the most profitable globally. According to InvestyWise, Delta generated $4.7 billion in net benefits, leading the industry in profitability.
Fleet Expansion to Celebrate the Milestone
With a fleet of over 1,300 aircraft, Delta Air Lines is undergoing significant renewal. According to Planespotters, the airline is set to receive 21 new aircraft in the first months of the year alone, including:
- 4 Airbus A220s
- 8 Airbus A321neos
- 7 Airbus A330-900neos
- 2 Airbus A350-900 XWBs
While Delta's renewal strategy may appear focused on Airbus aircraft, the airline maintains a balanced approach. Delta has 130 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on order, initially slated for delivery starting in 2025. However, ongoing challenges with the 737 MAX program have pushed their arrival to 2027.
To adapt, Delta revised its fleet plan, excluding the Boeing 737 MAX 10 from immediate expansion efforts. Instead, the airline is accelerating the arrival of Airbus A321neos to meet its short- and medium-haul demands.
