After finalizing the acquisition of its first aircraft last May, Global Airlines has agreed to purchase three more Airbus A380. Additionally, the company has appointed two new members to its advisory board.

The transaction amount was not disclosed. According to the new airline founded by entrepreneur James Asquith, plans are underway for the refurbishment and deployment of the aircraft. More details about the initial fleet are expected to be released in the coming months.

As per the plans of the new company, the first commercial operations are expected to take place in the northern spring of 2024. Initially, it would offer connections between London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and the American cities of New York and Los Angeles.

Global Airlines aims to bring back the «Golden Age» of air travel. In this regard, its proposal combines large four-engined aircraft with a differential and innovative service, including spacious private areas in first class (with double beds and private bathrooms) and the introduction of a cabin with video game consoles.

Acquiring an aircraft of this nature instead of opting for leasing options could be risky considering the current commercial aviation market. In recent years, operators have progressively replaced four-engined aircraft with the latest developments in twin-engined planes, which are more operationally efficient.

However, on routes like those Global Airlines plans to operate, which are characterized by high demand between airports with space limitations, using larger aircraft to increase seat density per route could be a viable alternative.

«As I have always said, the A380 is the best aircraft in the sky, and we will continue to look for further acquisition opportunities», declared Asquith.

    New advisors for Global Airlines

Furthermore, the company appointed Ian Black and Pierre Madrange as members of its advisory board. Both will advise the management team on various operational, technical and commercial matters, as explained by Global Airlines.

Ian Black is a commercial pilot and former military pilot, with over 25 years of experience as a captain of Airbus A330, A340 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. On the other hand, Pierre Madrange served as a fighter pilot in the French Air Force and, in the civil sector, held positions as the Director of Operations at XL Airways, CEO of SR Technics, and Vice President of NAVBLUE, an Airbus company.

«We extend our warmest welcome to both Ian and Pierre to the Global Airlines’ advisory board, where they will work closely with our team», said Asquith. «It is a real testament to the progress we are making that we continue to appoint senior and experienced people to our advisory board», he stated. «I believe we must have one of the most experienced teams of aviation professionals coming together to launch Global Airlines», he concluded.
