Global Airlines Airbus A380 completes engine tests as operations gear up for 2025
Global Airlines Airbus A380, the flagship aircraft of the UK-based start-up, recently completed its first engine tests in Dresden, Germany. The airline aims to revolutionize air travel by reviving the "Golden Age of Aviation" with a planned fleet of four A380s and operations set to begin in 2025.
Since October last year, Global Airlines Airbus A380's has been in Dresden, Germany, undergoing maintenance at the Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) facilities. The aircraft recently completed its first engine tests, marking a significant step for the UK-based start-up.
The aircraft, with serial number 120, arrived in Germany last autumn after departing from Prestwick, Scotland, on October 4. Since then, it has been restored by EFW in Dresden. Previously, it had been retired by China Southern Airlines, spending nearly a year and a half in the Mojave Desert and an additional five months in Scotland, according to a report by aeroTELEGRAPH, as published by its partner outlet Aeroin.
Registered as 9H-GLOBL, the A380 is the only aircraft currently owned by the ambitious start-up Global Airlines, which plans to begin operations in 2025. Although the exact launch date has not yet been announced, the company has not disclosed its planned routes. However, there has been prior speculation about connections between London, New York, and Los Angeles.
“Additional routes and destinations, beyond those publicly disclosed, could also be introduced. With our partnership with Hi Fly, we have the opportunity to fly from Europe to a wide range of international markets,” said founder James Asquith last year.
Three classes planned for the Airbus A380
Global Airlines is making steady progress toward the launch of its operations, as demonstrated by the recent tests in Dresden. On Wednesday (January 8), the Airbus A380 was moved for the first time since arriving at the airport in Dresden, leaving the EFW facilities where outdoor engine tests were conducted.
The airline has plans to operate at least four Airbus A380s in the future. Global Airlines aims to recreate the “Golden Age of Aviation”, a time known for luxury and exceptional service. To achieve this, the airline plans to offer three classes: Economy, Business, and First Class.
“We’ve all experienced long lines, delays, lost luggage, poor-quality meals, and bad customer service,” stated Global Airlines. The company emphasized that its goal is to revolutionize the flying experience by addressing these common frustrations.
