Iberia relaunches the Madrid-Barcelona Air Shuttle with two new fares designed for business and frequent travelers, offering greater flexibility and customization. The service, now 50 years old, operates up to 14 daily flights with enhanced airport facilities
Iberia relaunched the Madrid-Barcelona Air Shuttle, introducing two new fares designed to meet the diverse needs of its customers. These modifications aim to adapt the service, which boasts 50 years of history, to the demands of business travelers and other frequent passengers.
New fares: FLEXIBLE and CONFORT
The airline unveiled two fare options that provide greater customization options:
• Puente Aéreo FLEXIBLE Fare: offers features such as checked baggage up to 23 kg, any seat selection, priority boarding, unlimited free changes, full refunds, and an additional Avios point on top of the corresponding Iberia Plus status. Its fixed price is €219 per leg when booking round-trip.
• Puente Aéreo CONFORT Fare: designed for travelers seeking a balance between key services and price. It includes access to fast security lanes, priority boarding in Group 2, standard or front seat selection, free same-day schedule changes, changes before departure with a fare difference fee, refunds allowed for €45, and an additional Avios point. Prices range from €149 to €199 per leg, depending on how far in advance tickets are purchased.
Both fares are designed to ensure flexibility and agility in self-management, available through Iberia’s website and mobile app.
Frequencies and schedules
The service connects Madrid and Barcelona with up to 14 daily flights in each direction, operating every 30 minutes during peak hours and hourly for the rest of the day. Flights cover a wide time range, from 6:45 a.m. to 9:35 p.m., allowing passengers to tailor their itineraries to their specific needs.
Madrid-Barajas and El Prat airports feature exclusive areas for the Air Shuttle. These include dedicated check-in counters, self-service kiosks, and easy access to security checkpoints. In Madrid, the new 25 m² area is equipped for passengers with reduced mobility and features screens displaying seat availability for immediate flights.
Half a century connecting Madrid and Barcelona
As Iberia celebrates 50 years of the Madrid-Barcelona Air Shuttle, these new fares mark a significant evolution for this iconic Spanish air transport service. Inaugurated on November 4, 1974, with a Boeing B727 named "Aragón," the service initially operated 13 daily flights without reservations and has grown to become a key connection between the two cities.
