The cargo variant of the world’s largest future twin-engine is yet to be confirmed, with each new discussion fueling speculation that the U.S. manufacturer could offer its newest widebody aircraft in a dedicated cargo version.

«We were in talks this morning, but there are still a lot more negotiations to be seen», Carten Spohr, Lufthansa’s CEO, told Reuters.

The German carrier has firm orders for 20 Boeing 777-9s, scheduled to enter service by the end of 2023. Spohr confirmed that Lufthansa will be the global launch operator for this model.

From our partner Aeroin, we know that following the company’s release, Lufthansa decided to join another Boeing 777X customer, Qatar Airways, with whom it also had discussions on this cargo version.
