New route: JetSMART launches flights between Buenos Aires and Recife
JetSMART connects Buenos Aires and Brazil with up to 32 weekly flights. The airline will operate four times a week with its Airbus A320s.
Air connectivity between Argentina and Brazil has seen sustained growth in recent months, driven by the increase in Argentine tourism to the neighboring country. According to a report from the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), the flow of Argentine tourists to Brazil grew by 92% in January 2025, favored by the exchange rate difference. In response, airlines have expanded their offerings and increased flight frequencies.
GOL, the leading operator between the two countries, has added new routes and increased frequencies. LATAM has increased its seat capacity by using larger aircraft, while Aerolíneas Argentinas has reinstated its frequencies with Brazil. Azul, for its part, has shown interest in the Argentine market, although its current operations focus on Brazilian tourism.
Other airlines are also looking to capture this growing demand. SKY Airline will begin operations under the fifth freedom of the air, with flights between Santiago and Salvador, with a stopover in Buenos Aires. Similarly, JetSMART announced a new route between Santiago and Rio de Janeiro, with a stopover in Mendoza.
A few days ago, according to an update from the Air Services Registry (SIROS) from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), JetSMART had requested slots at Recife-Guararapes International Airport (REC) to operate daily flights from Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE) with Airbus A320 aircraft.

Finally, the company confirmed that the route will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with same-day returns. Initially, its Airbus A320s configured with 186 seats will be used.
Recife will join the routes that the company already operates between Buenos Aires and Brazil, which include Florianópolis (FLN) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG), with 14 and 18 weekly flights, respectively.
At the same time, the route between Buenos Aires and Recife will again be served by two airlines, as it was between 2016 and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when LATAM and GOL operated it, with a brief participation from Azul in January 2020.
Currently, GOL Linhas Aéreas is the only airline covering this route with two weekly flights on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, increasing to three weekly frequencies during the summer season. So far in 2024, 22,806 passengers have traveled on this route, with an average occupancy rate of 90%, according to data from ANAC Brazil.
