The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and Lima Airport Partners (LAP) have confirmed that the new Jorge Chávez International Airport will officially begin operations no later than March 30, 2025. The decision was formalized through the signing of an Agreement Act between both entities.
Final Review Before Opening
As part of the transition process, a comprehensive review will be conducted at the end of February to ensure all necessary measures are in place for a safe and orderly airport launch.
This marks the second postponement of the terminal’s opening in recent months. The original plan to launch in December was scrapped to avoid disrupting the holiday travel peak, following requests from airlines. A new date was set for January 29, but the timeline has now been extended to late March.
Coordination and Readiness for Operations
Minister of Transport and Communications Raúl Pérez Reyes previously stated that the rescheduled opening was decided in coordination with LAP and the aviation community. The priority has been to ensure safety, regularity, and efficiency, in compliance with international civil aviation standards.
This additional time will allow for operational testing to assess the terminal’s performance, identify any necessary adjustments, and train airport staff, airline personnel, and specialized service providers on the new operational procedures.
Defining the Opening Strategy
Technical teams from the MTC, LAP, and the airport community are currently evaluating whether the airport launch will take place gradually or in a single comprehensive process.
The MTC emphasized that it remains in close coordination with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and secure transition to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport.
