PLAY Airlines ends operations in Toronto-Hamilton from April 2025
PLAY Airlines will end its service between Reykjavik and Toronto-Hamilton starting April 22, 2025, marking the loss of the only European connection from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. The move reflects a strategic shift toward point-to-point routes, leaving Air Canada, Icelandair, and WestJet as the only carriers linking Canada and Iceland
PLAY Airlines will cease operations in Toronto-Hamilton, Canada, starting April 22, 2025, as reported by Cirium and booking systems. Operating with four weekly flights from Reykjavik, this service provided the only direct connection to Europe from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
Following PLAY Airlines' withdrawal, only Air Canada, Icelandair, and WestJet will offer direct flights between Canada and Iceland, connecting Reykjavik to Toronto-Pearson, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver. For now, PLAY Airlines' North American destinations are limited to Baltimore, Boston, and New York-Newburgh.
Last year, PLAY Airlines shifted its business strategy, focusing on point-to-point routes to European vacation destinations and moving away from the hub-and-spoke model.
In addition to losing its European link, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport has experienced reduced connectivity due to Lynx Air's financial collapse and capacity cuts by WestJet.
