Raleigh-Durham International Airport Expands Connectivity with New Domestic and International Routes
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) continues to enhance its flight network with new routes operated by various airlines. Recent announcements include both domestic and international destinations, further strengthening travel options to and from the region.
New International Routes
Avelo Airlines launched two seasonal international routes from RDU in February, connecting to Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ), and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ). These flights operate twice weekly and will continue until September, marking Avelo’s expansion into the international market.
According to RDU airport officials, departures take place from Terminal 1, while arrivals are processed in Terminal 2, where customs and immigration facilities are located.
Additionally, BermudAir will introduce direct flights between Raleigh-Durham and Bermuda (BDA) starting April 11, further enhancing Caribbean connectivity.
New Domestic Routes
Breeze Airways is expanding its presence at RDU with several new domestic routes:
- February 13 – Daytona Beach (DAB)
- April 30 – Pensacola (PNS)
- May – Memphis (MEM), Rochester, NY (ROC), and Orlando (MCO)
- June – Albany (ALB)
Daytona Beach, Memphis, and Pensacola are new destinations for RDU, broadening travel options for passengers.
Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines will launch a long-awaited direct flight to Kansas City (MCI) on May 7, meeting strong demand for this route.

RDU’s Passenger Growth and Economic Impact
RDU ended 2024 with over 1.3 million passengers in December, reflecting a 12.4% increase compared to the same month in 2023. Throughout the year, the airport handled 15.5 million travelers, a 6.5% rise from the 14.5 million passengers recorded in 2023.
According to a North Carolina Department of Transportation report, RDU generates an annual economic impact of $24.1 billion, supporting 139,745 direct and indirect jobs. Additionally, the airport contributes $9.8 billion in personal income and $1.3 billion in tax revenue to government agencies, reinforcing its critical role in the state’s economy.
